The Flying Angels Team

Bob Bacheler, MSN, CCRN, CFRN, Managing Director: Bob is the founder and inspiration for Flying Angels. Bob has been a Critical Care RN for over 20 years and a Flight Nurse for nearly 10. He is a passionate advocate for the profession of Flight Nursing, especially Commercial Medical Escort Services. He has coordinated over 600 Commercial Medical Transports and personally flown over half a million miles with patients, all over the world.

After his Bachelor of Science degree in 1987, Bob earned his RN from the Community College of Philadelphia in 1994. Bob earned a Master’s in Nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2000. Bob has taught at the University level and co-wrote the book “Standards for Critical Care and Specialty Transport” for the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA). He is also involved with developing curricula and testing for the Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) program. He brings this mastery and passion for quality, standards, and education to his management of Flying Angels.

Doug Whithed, RN, Flight Coordinator: As an experienced and well-travelled Flight Nurse, Doug brings his experience to flight coordination. He has hundreds of transport missions to routine and far-flung locations. He earned his RN from the Community College of Philadelphia, with honors, in 1999. He is a member of the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA). In addition to making a real difference to his patients, Doug enjoys the travel, sharing new experiences, culture, and history.

Karen Devi, RN, Flight Coordinator: Karen brings her passion for travel and her expertise as a nurse to flight coordination. She earned an Associate of Liberal Arts in 1988 and an Associate of Science in Nursing in 1993. She has a dozen years’ experience as a flight nurse, logging over a hundred missions. The best part of nursing for Karen is the human connection to the scientific aspect—Biology, Chemistry, etc. The travel is also a draw for her, experiencing all the different cultures and beautiful diversity of humanity. She is a member of the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA).
